A: In September, at the United Nations General Assembly, President Bai Koroma’s delegation made an announcement to partner with RippleNami to transform Sierra Leone into Africa’s first “Smart Country.” The program accelerates progress toward achieving President Koroma’s vision for Sierra Leone to become a green, inclusive, middle-income country. What’s at stake is empowering Sierra Leone to obtain economic independence and aggressively compete in global markets while elevating the prosperity of its people.

Q: What would you say is the biggest challenge in your job?
A: Our biggest challenge is our biggest opportunity and Ripplenami was born purely out of frustration by how each year BILLIONS of humanitarian aid in developing nations NEVER reached those in need.
As your readers know better than most, for every problem there exists an opportunity. Today, 3 billion of our global citizens don’t have any documents to verify their identity. Lack of identification prohibits people’s ability to use banks and inhibits access to basic rights like employment, education, healthcare, voting and travel. Without a reliable data infrastructure, these people are unable to capture the meaningful events in their lives: property ownership, health records, education certificates, and business licenses. The biggest challenge is the race against the clock to proliferate this technology to those in dire need of connectivity.

Q: Who are the primary clients of RippleNami?
A: The beneficiaries and users of our proprietary technology platform are as wide and diverse as the applications we offer to our end users. In Africa millions of people live in extreme poverty and don’t have a digital identity. Most of these people are denied from basic opportunities that are common in the West such as a bank account, the ability to sell their products to broader markets or being able to buy items that are vital for their small businesses. Still, millions of transactions take place in the streets and villages between small businesses and individuals, but only a very small fraction is visible to the governments. At the same time, most people own smart phones with all the capabilities and access functions found in the phones that operate in the West.
